What Rohit Sharma said after India’s victory
After the win against England, Rohit Sharma said, “It is a great satisfaction to win this match. We worked very hard as a unit. Everyone tried hard to win this match. We adapted very well. It was a challenge to adapt to the conditions there but we adapted and that is the big reason for our victory in this tournament. If the bowlers and batsmen adapt to the situation and perform well, it shows good results, as happened today. I am very happy with the way we won this match.”
Talking about the score in this match, Rohit Sharma said, “At one point 140-150 runs seemed to be enough, but as the game progressed and the way Surya and I were doing, I felt we should have scored 25 more runs. I had set a target in my mind, but I didn’t want to tell anyone about it because they are all easy-going batsmen and wanted to go out and bat freely without any pressure. We understood the situation and batted well and the result was in front, we scored 170 runs. I thought 170 was a very good score on this pitch and the bowlers were superb.”
Regarding the bowling of Akshar and Kuldeep, Rohit Sharma said, “They are excellent spinners. Some shots are difficult to play, even Kuldeep-Akshar was under pressure to know how to bowl accurately, but he remained calm and knew what to bowl. When we discussed after the first innings, it was decided to keep hitting the stumps as much as possible.”
Regarding Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma said, “Kohli is an excellent player. Any player can go through bad form. We know his style of play and his importance in such big matches. Form is not a concern for a player who has played for 15 years. He should have saved his best innings for the final.”
When asked about reaching the ICC World Cup final again after 7 months, Rohit Sharma said, “We have played with patience so far. We know that the final is a big moment. In the finals it is necessary to perform calmly and at your best. If you stay calm, you can take the right decisions. We took good decisions in 40 overs. Which was beneficial for us in the match. We were very calm and composed in this match. We didn’t get too scattered and that’s been important for us. A similar performance has to be done in the finals as well. We will do our best, that’s all I can say. The team is in good shape, they are playing well. I hope to put up another good performance in the finals.”
The Indian team will now play the final match of T20 World Cup 2024 against South Africa on June 29. The final will be played in Barbados at 8 PM IST.
