India’s world-renowned economist and Nobel laureate Amartya Sen is known for his outspoken views. Amartya Sen has often expressed his opinion about the reality in India. He challenged the ruling BJP over the recently held Lok Sabha elections. He made a big statement that it is clear that India is not a Hindu nation due to the Lok Sabha results. He also hoped that in a secular country like India, with a comprehensive constitution, its leaders should show political liberalism.
Talking to the media, Amartya Sen commented on various issues, PTI news agency has reported about this. “I don’t think the idea of making India a Hindu nation is right. He stated that India is not a Hindu nation, it is clear from the results of the Lok Sabha elections.
Amartya Sen, 90, also expressed disapproval of the practice of jailing opposition leaders without trial. “After every election, we expect something to change. We have seen what happened in the country after the last few elections. Some leaders are being imprisoned without due process. The gap between the rich and the poor is widening. Amartya Sen expressed his hope that all this should stop.
Giving proof of this, he said that I had seen these things in my childhood during the British rule. Leaders were kept in jail avoiding court hearings. “When I was young, I saw many of my relatives imprisoned without due process. I think India will get rid of this someday. This did not change even during the Congress government, it was their fault. But this method has become more prevalent during the current government”, Sen criticized Congress and BJP in these words.
An attempt was made to cover up the real identity of the country
Nobel Prize winner Amartya Sen also commented on BJP’s defeat in Ayodhya (Faizabad). He said, “A lot of money was spent on the construction of the Ram temple. An attempt was made to show that India is a Hindu nation. Even during the times of Mahatma Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, such an attempt was never made. This was an attempt to cover up India’s true identity, it must change.”
