IPL 2025 Schedule, Match Dates & Updates
The schedule for IPL 2025 was officially announced on February 16, bringing an end to the fans’ long wait. The tournament is set to begin on March 22 and will be played across 13 venues in India. A total of 74 matches will take place over 65 days, with the final scheduled for May 25 in Kolkata.
Opening Matches & Key Fixtures
- The first match will be played between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Kolkata on March 22.
- The second match will feature Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on March 23.
- The highly anticipated clash between five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) will take place on March 23 at 7:30 PM.
- RCB and MI will face off only once in the league stage, on April 7 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
The final match of IPL 2025 will be held on May 25 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
IPL 2025 Tournament Format
IPL 2025 follows the same format as IPL 2024:
- 10 teams are divided into two groups.
- Each team will play 14 league matches.
- The top two teams in the points table will compete in Qualifier 1.
- The third and fourth-placed teams will play in the Eliminator match.
- The loser of Qualifier 1 will face the winner of the Eliminator in Qualifier 2.
- The winner of Qualifier 2 will advance to the final against the winner of Qualifier 1.

IPL 2025 features 10 teams:

Recently, some teams announced their new captains:
- Lucknow Super Giants (LSG): Rishabh Pant (signed for ₹27 crore)
- Punjab Kings (PBKS): Shreyas Iyer (bought for ₹26.75 crore)
- Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB): Rajat Patidar named as the new captain
However, Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have yet to announce their captains for IPL 2025.
