IPL 2025 Updates BCCI meeting with team owners: In the background of IPL 2025, differences were seen between the team owners and BCCI on many issues. If the mega auction happens, the structure of all the teams will change. In view of that, BCCI spoke to the IPL team owners. Most of the team owners were of the opinion that the mega auction should be postponed for a year.
Difference between Shahrukh Khan and Ness Wadia –
Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner Shah Rukh Khan and Punjab Kings co-owner Ness Wadia had a disagreement over the retention policy, i.e. how many players each team can retain . While Shah Rukh Khan was of the opinion that teams should be able to retain more players, Punjab co-owner Ness Wadia was of the opinion that only a few players should be retained. Kavya Maran, co-owner of Sunrisers Hyderabad along with Shah Rukh Khan, was against mega auction. Kavya said that small auctions should be organized instead of mega auctions.
Because team building takes a lot of time, money and energy. The mega auction has to restructure the team. He gave the example of Abhishek Sharma. We took Abhishek in the team three years ago. He was young then. He has shown his strength in this season. He said that it is necessary to give time to understand the player, to understand the goals of the franchise. Most of the IPL teams have set up academies. An army of coaches are available to scout young players and hone their skills. Teams have invested heavily on this. IPL teams are getting new players through this academy.
Parth Jindal’s direct take on the impact player issue –
Meanwhile, Delhi owner Parth Jindal took a direct stand on the issue of impact players. It is necessary to compete in 11 players. Playing an extra bowler or batsman does not achieve much. This eliminates the usefulness of all-rounders. All-rounders are very important. It was also seen that some players were not bowling and some were not batting due to the impact player rule. This is not good for Indian cricket. Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian team as well as Mumbai Indians , is also not in favor of the impact player rule.
Who attended the meeting?
The meeting was attended by Kiran Kumar Granthi of Delhi Capitals, Sanjeev Goenka of Lucknow Supergiants, Rupa Gurunath of Chennai Super Kings, Manoj Badale of Rajasthan Royals and Prathamesh Mishra of Royal Challengers Bangalore.
