Jasprit Bumrah Fitness Update for Champions Trophy 2025
The Champions Trophy is set to begin on February 19, and all teams have announced their squads. The BCCI has selected a 15-member team for Team India, which includes fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. However, it remains uncertain whether Bumrah will be able to play in the 2025 Champions Trophy due to his ongoing injury concerns. He was injured in the last match of the Champions Trophy in Australia, after which he was advised to take rest.
Bumrah’s Injury Update
Jasprit Bumrah is currently dealing with a back injury. He has recently arrived at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, where he is expected to stay for at least three days. During this time, Bumrah will be under the supervision of the medical team at the BCCI’s Center of Excellence. The medical team will scan his injury and submit their report to the national selection committee. Bumrah will only be able to play in the Champions Trophy if he receives a clean bill of health from the medical team.
Ajit Agarkar’s Update on Bumrah
When the squad for the Champions Trophy was announced, chief selector Ajit Agarkar also provided an important update on Bumrah’s fitness. He stated that Bumrah has been advised to rest for five weeks, meaning he will not be available for the first two ODIs against England. If all goes well with his recovery, Bumrah might be able to play in the final match of the series or could directly join the squad for the Champions Trophy.
The India vs. England ODI series is scheduled to begin on February 6.
Bumrah’s Recent Injury and Recovery
On the second day of the last match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, Jasprit Bumrah suddenly had to leave the field. He was later seen exiting the stadium with the support staff, and he did not return to bowl.
Bumrah has had a history of back issues. In 2023, he underwent successful back surgery in Christchurch, New Zealand, after suffering the injury in June 2022. Due to this injury, he was sidelined for a long period.
