Jasprit Bumrah Injury Update Ahead of Champions Trophy 2025
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is set to begin on February 19, and Team India has already announced its squad for the tournament. However, Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness remains a significant concern. Bumrah, who sustained a back injury during the last Test match against Australia, has not bowled since.
Bumrah’s Injury Update
Jasprit Bumrah’s back injury is currently being overseen by New Zealand orthopedic surgeon Dr. Rowan Scouting, who had previously treated Bumrah’s injury that kept him out of the T20 World Cup 2022. According to a report in The Times of India:
- The BCCI medical team is in touch with Dr. Scouting to assess Bumrah’s recovery.
- The board has planned a consultation in New Zealand, but it hasn’t happened yet.
- The decision on Bumrah’s participation in the Champions Trophy will depend on Dr. Scouting’s feedback.
BCCI sources revealed, “It will be a miracle if Bumrah is 100% fit in the given time. Both the board and Bumrah are cautious about rushing his recovery, considering his long-term role in the team.”
Backup Plans
The selectors have included Harshit Rana in the squad for the first two ODIs against England as a potential backup. The final squad for the Champions Trophy can be revised until February 11. If Bumrah is not fit, Rana may be considered for the tournament.
