Jasprit Bumrah-Sam Konstas Clash in Sydney Test
During the fifth and final Test between India and Australia in Sydney, Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah and young Australian batsman Sam Konstas had a heated exchange. The argument occurred at the end of the first day, prompting intervention by the umpires. Nineteen-year-old Konstas has since admitted his mistake.
On the final day of the match, Australia came out to bat after bowling India out. India, aiming to maximize the overs, began their innings quickly. Usman Khawaja, standing at the non-striker’s end, tried to slow the pace of the game, leading Bumrah to question the umpire. Amid this, Konstas, also at the non-striker’s end, deliberately started an argument with Bumrah, who retaliated. During the heated exchange, Khawaja lost his wicket on the second ball.
The incident has drawn mixed reactions, with some accusing the Indian team of intimidating the 19-year-old. However, after the series, Konstas admitted his error. Speaking to Triple M, Konstas said, “It doesn’t affect me much. Unfortunately, Usman Khawaja got out. He was trying to buy time, but it was my mistake. I provoked Bumrah, and he got out. Such things happen in cricket. Credit for the wicket goes to Bumrah—he bowled well. Overall, our team did well.”
Despite the clash, Konstas performed admirably against Bumrah in the series. He played confidently, hitting big shots, including a six off Bumrah’s bowling. However, Bumrah eventually dismissed him, cutting short what could have been a big innings.
