State Bureau, Ranchi: Here’s good news for differently-abled and orphaned students in Jharkhand. Starting from the academic session 2025-26, the state government will bear the entire cost of higher and technical education for all differently-abled and orphaned students in the state. This includes covering tuition fees up to ₹10 lakh. Additionally, students will be provided with ₹4,000 per month.
Applications through a dedicated portal
The state government will cover all educational expenses for these students, leaving only the costs for hostel accommodation and meals to be managed by them. However, to assist with these expenses, students will receive a monthly allowance of ₹4,000. To facilitate this process, a portal is being developed where eligible students can apply for the scheme once it’s operational.
Valmiki Scholarship Scheme
All eligible students can apply under this scheme. The government estimates an annual expenditure of ₹99.66 crore for the initiative.
Monitoring Committee
A committee will be formed to oversee the scheme, chaired by the Director of Higher Education. It will include representatives from the Social Security Directorate, Technical Education Directorate, the Personnel Department, and the Women and Child Development Department. The government has already approved the scheme, and its official launch is expected in January or February next year.
Benefits in all educational institutions in Jharkhand
Under this scheme, students enrolling in any institution within Jharkhand will be eligible. For institutions in other states, only students admitted to the top 100 category (in their respective categories) or the top 200 overall will be eligible for benefits. Beneficiaries must be permanent residents of Jharkhand.
Additionally, for diploma courses, students must have passed Class 10 from a school in Jharkhand. For degree-level courses, students must have completed both Class 10 and Class 12 in Jharkhand schools.
