State Bureau, Ranchi: The 31st meeting of the Jharkhand State Sentence Review Council was held on Monday at the Jharkhand Secretariat under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Hemant Soren.
In this meeting, the review of the release of 74 prisoners serving life sentences in various prisons of the state was conducted. Following the review, the council approved the release of 39 of these prisoners. The decision to release these 39 prisoners was made after detailed discussions on the opinions of the courts, the Superintendents of Police of the respective districts, jail superintendents, and probation officers.
CM Soren’s Directives to Officials:
During the meeting, Chief Minister Hemant Soren directed the officials to gather information about the released prisoners serving life sentences in various state prisons, in light of the recommendations of the Jharkhand State Sentence Review Council. He instructed them to verify the familial, social, and economic conditions of these released prisoners. The Chief Minister emphasized the need to prepare a special work plan for their livelihood and income generation. He also suggested integrating the released prisoners with skill development programs.
Connecting Released Prisoners to Employment:
To provide employment opportunities, the prisoners will be connected with schemes such as dairy farming, poultry farming, and animal husbandry. The Chief Minister stressed that a comprehensive plan should be prepared to ensure these prisoners do not face social or economic difficulties after their release from prison and to link them with self-employment opportunities.
Special Attention to Older Prisoners:
CM Soren also highlighted the importance of gathering information about the familial conditions of older prisoners who are being released. He stated that integrating the released prisoners into the mainstream society is everyone’s moral responsibility.
