State Bureau, Ranchi: Before the arrival of the new year, a significant gift is set to be given to nearly 56 lakh women in Jharkhand on December 28. On this day, the increased amount of ₹2,500 under the Maiya Samman Yojana will be transferred to their bank accounts. Chief Minister Hemant Soren will transfer the amount through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) during a grand event at the Army Ground in Khojatoli, Namkom.
Since the monthly amount for women has been increased from ₹1,000 to ₹2,500, and the increased amount will be disbursed starting from December, the decision has been made to launch it with a grand celebration. The event will be attended by several ministers, MPs, and MLAs.
Women from All Districts to Attend
A large number of beneficiary women from all districts will also participate in the event. Women will receive notifications on their mobile phones when the amount is transferred to their accounts, for which the state government has purchased a bulk SMS package of 1.5 crore messages. The government has instructed all ministers to be present at the district-level events.
Previous Installments
Beneficiary women have already received the amount in four installments. So far, ₹1,000 has been transferred to their bank accounts each month. The scheme was launched on August 18, and after that, amounts were transferred to the beneficiaries’ accounts in divisional-level events.
Initially, the scheme was meant to benefit women between the ages of 21 to 50 years. However, later it was decided to extend the benefit to women aged 18 to 50 years.
Increase in the Scheme’s Amount
During the Jharkhand Assembly elections, the INDIA alliance had announced an increase in the amount under the scheme from ₹1,000 to ₹2,500. After winning the elections, the state government decided to implement this change.
