JioHotstar Merger: IPL 2025 Online Streaming Now Paid – Subscription Plans & Details
The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a grand festival for cricket fans, featuring top players from India and around the world competing for 10 different teams. Enthusiasts of Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and other franchises eagerly await the matches. However, a significant change is coming this season—IPL live streaming will no longer be free.
No More Free IPL Streaming
Until IPL 2024, cricket fans could watch matches for free, but this will change with the IPL 2025 season. Following the merger of Viacom18 and Star India, a new streaming platform, JioHotstar, has been introduced. As a result, fans will now have to pay for IPL streaming.
On Friday, after the merger of Jio Cinema and Disney+ Hotstar, JioHotstar was officially launched. According to Reuters, viewers will be able to watch IPL matches for a few minutes for free, after which a subscription message will appear, prompting them to purchase a plan to continue watching.
New Subscription Plans for IPL 2025
To watch full live streaming of IPL 2025 matches, users must subscribe to JioHotstar. The new subscription plans include:
- ₹149 Plan – Basic plan with access to only a few matches.
- ₹499 Plan – Three-month pack for extended viewing.
Jio Cinemas had acquired IPL digital streaming rights in 2023 for a massive $3 billion deal and streamed IPL matches for free in 2023 and 2024. However, following the merger between Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance and Walt Disney, the streaming policy has changed, making IPL matches paid from 2025.
Why Did JioHotstar Introduce Paid Streaming?
A source explained that once users start watching content for free, they develop loyalty to the platform. After this, they are more likely
