Kolkata Rape and Murder Case: Timeline of Events and Phone Calls
A shocking case of rape and murder in Kolkata has left the entire country in disbelief. The incident occurred at R.G. Kar Health College and Hospital. The victim, a 31-year-old doctor, was brutally attacked and killed. Her parents have revealed the distressing phone calls they received on August 9, which marked the day of the tragedy.
What Happened on the Morning of August 9?
On the morning of August 9, the victim, who lived in a middle-class household in North Kolkata, had gone to her shift at R.G. Kar Health College and Hospital. The previous night, around 11:30 PM on August 8, she had called her parents. They were expecting this call, but they had no idea it would be their last conversation with her. The next morning, the parents received three phone calls that left them devastated. The calls informed them of their daughter’s rape and murder.
The First Phone Call
The first call came at 10:53 AM. The caller, an assistant from the hospital, informed the victim’s parents that something had happened to their daughter. This call was also mentioned in the Supreme Court proceedings. The conversation was as follows:
- Victim’s Father: “Please tell me what happened.”
- Caller: “Your daughter’s condition is very bad; please come to the hospital soon.”
- Victim’s Father: “Please tell me what happened?”
- Caller: “A doctor will talk to you; come soon.”
- Victim’s Father: “Who are you speaking to?”
- Caller: “I am an assistant, not a doctor.”
- Victim’s Father: “Isn’t there a doctor there?”
- Caller: “I am an assistant. Your daughter is in the intensive care unit. Please come and contact us.”
- Victim’s Father: “She went on duty; what exactly happened?”
- Caller: “You should come here quickly.”
The Second Phone Call
In the second call, the parents were asked if they were on their way to the hospital:
- Caller: “I am calling from R.G. Kar Hospital.”
- Victim’s Mother: “Yes, speak.”
- Caller: “Are you reaching the hospital?”
- Victim’s Mother: “Yes, we are coming. How is our daughter?”
- Caller: “Come and speak to us. Reach R.G. Kar Hospital soon.”
- Victim’s Mother: “Alright, we are on our way.”
The Third Phone Call
In the third call, the parents were told that their daughter had committed suicide. The Assistant Superintendent called again:
- Victim’s Father: “Hello?”
- Caller: “I’m an assistant.”
- Victim’s Father: “Yes, speak.”
- Caller: “Preliminarily, it is known that your daughter has committed suicide. She has died. We are all here. You should come to the hospital soon.”
- Victim’s Father: “We are coming, on our way.”
- Victim’s Mother: (Screaming) “My daughter is no more!”
These three calls were critical in informing the girl’s parents of the tragic incident. NDTV reported that the parents were asked to come to the hospital but had to wait for three hours and were not allowed to see their daughter.
