UP Love Jihad Law: Uttar Pradesh’s Yogi government today made important amendments to the anti-conversion law. By amending this law, the provision of punishment against the conversion of someone by fraud or force has been made more stringent. The term love jihad was used for this. Earlier the punishment for this was 10 years. But now this sentence has been increased to life imprisonment. A fine of five lakh rupees has also been provided.
The Anti-Conversion Act earlier provided for a maximum sentence of 10 years and a fine of Rs 50,000. But the Yogi government has tightened the noose of action around this type of crime. As per the amendment in the law, the maximum penalty of life imprisonment has been provided for those accused of converting and marrying any woman by tricking or luring her, as well as abusing her after marriage.
According to the amendment in the law, any person can now file an FIR against conversion. Earlier, only parents or siblings of the victim could file a complaint. Now anyone can make a written complaint to the police. The law also provides that cases like love jihad will not be heard in lower courts of sessions court.
According to the new amendment, now it will be difficult for the accused to get bail. A petition for bail cannot be filed without argument by the public prosecutor. Apart from that, all the sections of this Act have been made non-bailable. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath decided to further tighten the law to prevent conversions and after complaints against love jihad from people increased.
This Act was first promulgated in 2020. The Act was then passed in both Houses. Now this law has been amended.
Love Jihad also started from Jharkhand
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had alleged during the Lok Sabha campaign on May 29 that the love jihad in the country started from Jharkhand . Some political leaders in Jharkhand changed their parents’ names to grab land. They also usurped the position of the Indian Army. Now is the time to free Jharkhand from such people”, criticized PM Modi.
