LONDON: Serbia’s second seed Novak Djokovic advanced to the men’s singles semi-finals at the Wimbledon tennis tournament after Alex de Minaur withdrew due to injury.
Australia’s ninth seed Minaur decided to withdraw from the tournament just hours before his quarter-final match against Djokovic. Minaur suffered a doubt during the fourth round win against Arthur Fils. However, Minaur did not take it seriously at that time. Djokovic gets the move as Minaur retires from the match. Djokovic reached the semifinals of Wimbledon for the 13th time. Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti will face Djokovic in the semi-finals. Musetti defeated American Taylor Fritz 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 in a tight quarter-final match.
Elina Rybakina of Kazakhstan and Barbara Krejcikova of the Czech Republic secured their place in the quarter-finals of the women’s singles. Rybakina defeated Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. Meanwhile, Krejcikova defeated Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).
