Paris Olympics 2024: Egyptian Wrestler Mohammed Al Sayed Arrested
Many athletes are in the spotlight due to recent actions taken against them at the Paris Olympics 2024. Another significant development has emerged: Egyptian wrestler Mohammed Al Sayed has been arrested by the police. The 26-year-old athlete was detained around 5 a.m. in front of District Cafe. According to Paris police, he is being interrogated for allegedly molesting a woman in a bar. The woman has filed a complaint, stating that Al Sayed was drunk at the time of the incident. Cases of athletes misbehaving under the influence of substances have been reported before at the Olympics.
Mohammed Al Sayed won a bronze medal in the 67 kg weight category at the Tokyo Olympics. At the Paris Olympics, he lost to Hasrat Jafarov of Azerbaijan in a wrestling match and did not win a medal. As of now, there is no information on whether he has been released or remains in police custody.
Al Sayed, born on March 16, 1998, has earned several championship titles, including a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics. He has also won gold medals at the African Wrestling Championships, the African Games, and the Military World Games. Additionally, he was named the Best Under-23 Wrestler by the United World Wrestling Association. He secured gold in the 67 kg category at both the 2019 African Games and the 2019 Military World Games.
Earlier in the Paris Olympics, another athlete, Tom Craig of the Australian men’s hockey team, was arrested following a disappointing loss to the Netherlands. The 28-year-old player was apprehended while purchasing cocaine from a drug dealer. The Australian hockey team was eliminated from the quarter-finals after a 2-0 defeat to the Netherlands. According to local police, Craig was found outside a building in the 9th arrondissement around midnight. During a search, police seized cocaine and 75 drug capsules. The drug dealer was also arrested, and it was revealed that the drugs were ordered from a minor dealer.
