Paris Olympics: Why won’t Lakshya Sen’s first Olympic match count?
Their remaining matches in Group L against Indonesia’s Jonathan Christie and Belgium’s Julian Karagi will not be played. The schedule of matches in this group has been changed. Badminton’s World Federation said matches in Group L were played with Cordon under the BWF’s competition rules for the group stage. Therefore, the results of all matches involving or played by Cordon in Group L will now be considered null and void. Cordon’s withdrawal means there will now be just three players in Group L, including Lakshya Sen, Christie and Caraghi. Thus Lakshya will be the only player in this group to play three matches. Lakshya Sen will now face Karachi on Monday and Christie in their final group match on Wednesday.
The Men’s Doubles Group C match between Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty has been called off due to the withdrawal of Germany’s Mark Lamfuss due to injury. The Indian pair was scheduled to play against the German pair of Lamsfuss and Marvin Seidel on Monday. German men’s doubles player Mark Lamsfuss has withdrawn from the badminton event at the Paris Olympics due to a knee injury, the BWF said.
Lamfuss and his partner Marvin Seidel will no longer play Group C matches against India’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty and France’s Lucas Corvey and Ronan Labour (30 July 2024). Satwik and Chirag opened their campaign with a 21-17, 21-14 win over the French pair of Lucas Corvey and Ronan Labar on Saturday.
