PM Narendra Modi – Donald Trump Meeting: Discussion on Deportation of Indians from the US
The issue of Indians being deported from the US to India has been a topic of discussion across the country for the past month. One of the first major decisions taken by Donald Trump after assuming office as the US President was to issue orders for the deportation of illegal immigrants residing in the country. As a result, Indian nationals living illegally in the US will also face deportation, similar to citizens of other countries.
In this context, during the Narendra Modi-Donald Trump meeting, media representatives raised questions on this issue. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed these concerns and expressed India’s stance on the matter.
Key Discussions in the Modi-Trump Meeting
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Donald Trump met on Friday morning, where they held bilateral discussions on various issues. Some of the key topics discussed included:
- The extradition approval of Mumbai attack mastermind Tahawwur Rana.
- US tariffs and their impact on India.
- The issue of illegal immigrants, which has been a focal point in recent discussions.
What Did Narendra Modi Say on the Deportation Issue?
During a press conference after the meeting, Narendra Modi was asked about the US policy of deporting illegal immigrants back to their home countries. He responded by saying that this is not just an issue concerning India but a global concern.
“This issue is not just about India. Globally, we believe that people who are living in other countries illegally have no legal right to stay there. When it comes to India and America, we have always maintained that India is ready to take back its citizens who are living in the US illegally. However, our concern goes beyond just deportation. Many of these people come from ordinary families and have big dreams, but most of them are brought to the US through fraud,” said Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“The Human Trafficking System Must Be Eliminated”
Modi further emphasized the need to combat human trafficking, which is often responsible for illegal immigration.
“We must dismantle the entire system of human trafficking. India and the US should work together to eradicate this system from its roots. It is an injustice to poor families and their children, who are lured with false promises of a better life. Our primary battle is against this system. I believe that President Trump will support India in eliminating human trafficking,” Modi stated in his response.
