PM Narendra Modi Meets India’s Paris Olympics 2024 Contingent : In the recently concluded Paris Olympics, some of India’s athletes made history, while others faced disappointment. A total of 117 athletes from India participated in this year’s Olympics. India won six medals in total—one silver and five bronze. However, the country narrowly missed out on seven more medals by finishing fourth in those events. Additionally, India did not secure a single medal in badminton this year.
On the occasion of Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the athletes who participated in the Paris Olympics 2024. Prime Minister Modi first met with the hockey team, which has achieved a historic feat by winning bronze medals in two consecutive Olympics. This was India’s goalkeeper PR Sreejesh’s last match for the national hockey team. Although the Indian hockey team performed well in the group stage and reached the semi-finals, they did not make it to the final. Despite this, the team returned home with a bronze medal. PR Sreejesh, the legendary Indian hockey goalkeeper, presented his team’s jersey to Prime Minister Modi. Additionally, Indian hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh gifted his hockey stick to the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Modi also met Aman Sehrawat and Swapnil Kusale, congratulating them on their achievements. Meanwhile, Manu Bhaker, who won two medals in the Olympics, showed her pistol to Prime Minister Modi. The Prime Minister also had an extended conversation with Lakshya Sen, who narrowly missed out on a bronze medal due to an injury after initially taking the lead. Wrestler Aman Sehrawat gifted his jersey to Prime Minister Modi, becoming India’s youngest Olympic medalist at the age of 21.
Modi congratulated all the medal-winning athletes and also addressed and engaged in discussions with all the participating players. Many athletes from the Paris Olympics have not yet returned to India. Neeraj Chopra is currently in Germany consulting a doctor for his injury, and Vinesh Phogat will return to India on August 17. Even badminton player PV Sindhu could not meet PM Modi. PV Sindhu faced disappointment this time at the Paris Olympics, as she was defeated in the round of 16.
