A Political Storm Hits Jharkhand as Hemant Soren’s Uncle, Former CM Champai Soren, Announces Split from JMM
Jharkhand’s political landscape was shaken when Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s uncle and former Chief Minister of the state, Champai Soren, announced his decision to break away from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).
In the wake of this rebellion, Hemant Soren visited Jamshedpur for the first time on Friday. However, during his visit, he remained publicly silent on his uncle Champai’s actions. While attending a memorial service for former MP Sunil Mahato’s daughter, Ankita Mahato, at Sonari, Hemant stated that it was a time of mourning, and making a political statement would not be appropriate. He refrained from commenting on the issue involving Champai Soren.
Nevertheless, Hemant did mention that he harbors no ill will towards Champai, emphasizing that long-standing relationships have no room for bitterness. He stated that the JMM is like a family, with district, block, and even panchayat-level workers being members of this family. He stressed that they stand by all members and their families during difficult times.
Targeting BJP
Meanwhile, reacting to the BJP’s “Akrosh Rally” in Ranchi, Hemant criticized the party, stating that those whom the entire nation stands against are now organizing a rally of outrage. He added that this is part of the BJP’s agenda.
What’s the Entire Issue?
On August 15, Sunil Mahato’s daughter, Ankita, passed away during treatment in Delhi. A memorial service was organized at their residence in North Layout, Sonari, on Friday.
Hemant Soren, along with his wife Kalpana Soren, arrived around 3 PM to pay their respects. Ministers Baby Devi, Deepak Birua, and Deepika Pandey Singh were also present with them.
Several public representatives from Kolhan, including MP Joba Manjhi, MLAs Niel Purti, Sukhram Oraon, Ramdas Soren, Mangal Kalindi, and Sameer Mohanty, were also seen at the service.
Internal Party Conflict: A Challenge for Hemant
Hemant’s visit comes at a time when Champai Soren’s announcement to part ways with JMM has opened a new chapter in Jharkhand’s politics.
The conflict between uncle and nephew has brought Jharkhand’s politics to a critical juncture. It will be interesting to see how Hemant handles this situation. Will he be able to keep the party united, or will this conflict become a significant challenge for him?
