Prashant Kishor Hospitalised Amid BPSC Protest
Jan Suraj Paksha founder Prashant Kishor, who is on a fast unto death in support of BPSC students, reportedly experienced health deterioration on Monday night. Following this, Kishor was admitted to Medanta Hospital in Patna on Tuesday morning. Reports suggest that he was hospitalized due to severe stomach pain.
Prashant Kishor has been on a fast unto death at Gandhi Maidan in Patna, the capital of Bihar, since January 2. His agitation is aimed at demanding the re-conducting of the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) preliminary examination. He was detained by the police on Monday morning and produced in court. However, he was sent to judicial custody after refusing to accept conditional bail. Later, on Monday evening, Kishor was granted unconditional bail, 15 hours after his arrest. The police had earlier arrested him from Gandhi Maidan, citing that protests were prohibited at the location.
A Jan Suraj Party worker stated, “Kishor slept under the open sky for four nights… The doctor has advised him to undergo some tests. We will soon know the exact cause of his illness.” Meanwhile, the students have continued their protest at their planned location.
Bihar Bandh on January 12
Independent MP from Purnia, Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, has called for a Bihar bandh on January 12. He has also requested Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav to lead the agitation.
Hundreds of candidates who appeared for the BPSC preliminary examination, held on December 13 at 912 centres in Bihar, have been protesting in Patna since December 18. The students are demanding the cancellation of the examination, alleging that CCTV cameras and jammers were not functioning at many centres. They also claim that the distribution of question papers and access to the examination centres were delayed at several locations.
The protests intensified after a student, Sonu Kumar, committed suicide on the evening of December 2025. During this time, Prashant Kishor met with the protesting students. Earlier, the police had resorted to lathi charges on the students, resulting in several injuries.
