Rohit Sharma Retires from T20Is : The Indian team under the leadership of Indian team captain Rohit Sharma has won the title of T20 World Cup by bowing to South Africa. India ended their ICC trophy drought by defeating South Africa in Barbados on Saturday (June 29) to win the T20 World Cup 2024. Along with this, captain Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from international T20. Earlier, Virat Kohli had retired after being selected as the man of the match in the final.
After Kapil Dev (1983) and MS Dhoni (2007 and 2011) – 37-year-old Rohit Sharma has become only the third Indian captain to win the T20 World Cup. The Indian captain has now become the first captain to lead the team to 50 T20 matches. The World Cup final against South Africa is his 5th career win. Rohit took over the captaincy of India in the T20 format after an amazing performance for the team in the T20 World Cup 2021. Under the leadership of Rohit, India became the first team to win the T20 World Cup without losing a match. Due to this, India has ended the drought by winning the ICC trophy after 11 years. Rohit Sharma was also part of the team that won the first World Cup title in 2007 and now under his leadership the team has won the title.
According to a report by ANI, after Virat Kohli won the T20 World Cup title, Rohit Sharma also bid farewell to T20 cricket. Rohit Sharma announced his retirement in a press conference. Announcing his retirement, Rohit Sharma said, “This is my last match. There couldn’t be a better opportunity to say goodbye to this format. I have enjoyed every moment of this format. I started my career for India playing in this format and this is what I wanted. I wanted to win this World Cup.”
An emotional Rohit said after India won the ICC tournament after 11 years, “I am completely lost and I can’t put my feelings into words. Can’t be expressed in words. Last night, I couldn’t even sleep because I was desperate and waiting to get the trophy. But I handled myself well on the field.”
