Shaktikanta Das Appointed as Principal Secretary to PM Narendra Modi
The central government has entrusted a significant responsibility to former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das, appointing him as the Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This decision follows Das’s recent retirement from his role as RBI Governor.
According to an official government order, Shaktikanta Das will serve as the second Principal Secretary to PM Modi, alongside PK Mishra, who has held the position since 2019. India Today has reported on this development.
Shaktikanta Das’s Career and Contributions
Shaktikanta Das is a 1980-batch IAS officer from the Tamil Nadu cadre. Over his four-decade-long career, he has held several key positions in the central government, including Secretary of the Revenue Department and Secretary of the Economic Affairs Department.
Das served as the 25th Governor of the Reserve Bank of India from 2018 to 2024, during which he played a crucial role in managing India’s economic challenges. His leadership at the RBI was particularly significant in handling economic stability, inflation control, and financial reforms.
Originally from Bhubaneswar, Odisha, Das has now been appointed as the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister for the duration of PM Modi’s tenure or until further orders.
This appointment marks another crucial administrative change in the Prime Minister’s Office, reinforcing the government’s focus on economic expertise and governance.
