Sharjah Cricket Stadium Sets New Record by Hosting 300 Men’s Matches
The Sharjah Cricket Stadium has set a new milestone in the world of cricket by becoming the first international venue to host 300 men’s matches. The third ODI series between Afghanistan and Bangladesh, which started on November 6, marked this historic achievement. Before this match, the stadium had hosted 252 ODIs, 38 T20Is, and 10 Test matches.
The Sharjah Cricket Stadium, located in the UAE, has a rich history in the sport, hosting several iconic tournaments, especially in the 1990s. It became famous for memorable performances, including Sachin Tendulkar’s remarkable ‘Desert Storm’ innings against Australia in 1998. To honor Tendulkar’s contribution to the game, the West Stand of the stadium was renamed the ‘Sachin Tendulkar Stand’ in 2023.
Pakistan has been the most frequent participant at this venue, taking part in nearly 50% of the matches held there, with 93 wins out of 144 matches. Sri Lanka follows with 32 wins out of 87 matches. India, ranked third, has played 72 matches, winning 35 of them. Interestingly, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Papua New Guinea, and Scotland have yet to register a victory at this ground.
