Sourav Ganguly Predicts Rishabh Pant to Become All-Time Great in Test Cricket
The BCCI has announced the Indian squad for the first Test match against Bangladesh, marking the return of star wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant. This is Pant’s first inclusion in the Test team since 2022. Former captain Sourav Ganguly has made a significant statement regarding Pant’s comeback. Ganguly described Pant as the best Indian Test batsman and predicted that he is on his way to becoming one of the greatest ever. Ganguly also mentioned that he is not surprised by Pant’s return.
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly believes that Rishabh Pant is on the verge of becoming an all-time great in Test cricket. However, he also emphasized the need for Pant to improve his performance in shorter formats. Pant was included in the Indian Test squad for the first time on Sunday after recovering from injuries sustained in a car accident in December 2022. He is expected to be part of the playing eleven for the first Test against Bangladesh, starting on September 19 in Chennai.
Rishabh Pant: One of India’s Best Test Batsmen
Rishabh Pant made a comeback in the limited-overs format earlier this year and performed well. During an event, Sourav Ganguly stated, “I consider Rishabh Pant to be one of the best Test batsmen in India. So, I am not surprised by Rishabh’s return to Test cricket. He will continue to play Test cricket for India.”
Pant’s Potential to Become Among Test Cricket’s All-Time Greats
Sourav Ganguly added, “If he continues to perform like this, he will be among the all-time greats in Test cricket. I believe he needs to perform well in shorter formats as well. He is talented, and I am sure he will succeed in doing so soon.”
Rishabh Pant’s Comeback Strengthens Team India
Rishabh Pant’s return to the Test team has bolstered the Indian squad, largely due to his versatile performance. Pant is adept at hitting big shots and has also excelled in wicketkeeping. Since making his Test debut in 2018, Pant’s performances have consistently improved. His work on his keeping and batting skills is evident on the field.
Pant was a key match-winner for Team India in the 2020-21 overseas Test series against Australia, where India triumphed 2-1. In the fourth and final Test at the Gabba, Pant played a crucial role in India’s historic series victory with an unbeaten knock of 89 runs.
