Riza Hendricks scored 29 runs for South Africa. Captain Aiden Markram scored 23 runs. Both these players remained unbeaten till the end. Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan won the toss and decided to bowl first. Afghanistan’s batsmen were a complete flop in this match and none of the players could perform well for the team. Only Azmatullah Umarzai could reach the double figure. He scored 10 runs in this match. Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Noor Ahmed and Mohammad Nabi could not even open accounts. Marco Jansson dismissed Gurbaz in the first over to shock Afghanistan. Janson then drove back Gulbadin in the next over of his spell. In the very next over, Kagiso Rabada broke Afghanistan’s back by taking two wickets. He clean bowled Ibrahim Zadran on the first ball. He also bowled Mohammad Nabi on the fourth ball. Marco Janssen chased Kharoto back. Enrique Norrgia also got success in his first over. Tabrez Shamsi also took two wickets in the first over. He defeated Karim Janat and Noor Ahmed. Norkhia bowled Rashid Khan. Naveen Ul Haq Shamsi fell and Afghanistan were all out for 56 runs.
The South African bowlers performed brilliantly. Marco Yance took 3 wickets giving 16 runs in 3 overs. Tabrez Shamsi also took three wickets. Kagiso Rabada and Enrique Norrgia took 2 wickets each. It was because of these bowlers that the Afghan team could not build a big score and all the batsmen quickly retreated.
India and England will clash in the second semi-final this evening. The winner of this match will play the final against South Africa. The final will be played on June 29 at Barbados at 8 PM IST.
