New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell has called the incident a “terrorist attack.” The FBI has launched an investigation to determine the sequence of events leading to the truck plowing into the crowd early Wednesday morning. According to the BBC, several videos circulating on social media depict people lying on the ground with serious injuries.
After the incident, the New Orleans City Emergency Department posted on X (formerly Twitter), advising, “Major accident at Canal and Bourbon Street. Stay away from this area.”
Meanwhile, a police officer informed CNN that the attacker involved in the New Orleans attack has died. Authorities have stated there is evidence to suggest the act was intentional. The FBI and local police are jointly examining the vehicle to uncover the motive behind the attack.
