IND vs NZ: Umpires Warn Rohit Sharma and Sarfaraz Khan Amid On-Field Tensions
The third Test match between India and New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai has witnessed a notable incident involving Indian batsmen Rohit Sharma and Sarfaraz Khan. After winning the toss, New Zealand opted to bat first, and with half of their team already back in the tent, they were approaching the 200-run mark.
The on-field umpires issued a stern warning to both Sarfaraz Khan and Rohit Sharma following a complaint from New Zealand batsman Daryl Mitchell. This incident unfolded during the 31st over of the Indian bowling innings when umpire Richard Illingworth called over Rohit Sharma to address the situation. The umpire noted that Sarfaraz Khan’s constant chatter was distracting Mitchell, prompting the Kiwi batsman to express his concerns.
In the midst of this discussion, Rohit Sharma was seen supporting Sarfaraz and clarifying the situation with Mitchell. The exchange, which involved Sarfaraz fielding at short leg/silly point, has since gone viral on social media, with many photos and videos capturing the moment.
Despite the tensions, the game continued, and Darryl Mitchell eventually completed his 12th Test half-century. He appeared visibly fatigued from the Mumbai heat, taking time to hydrate and consume energy sachets during his innings. At the time of this incident, half of the New Zealand team had already retreated to the tent, while Mitchell and Ish Sodhi remained on the field.
