Vinesh Phogat’s Olympics 2024 Failure: Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh Reacts
Former BJP MP and ex-President of the Wrestling Federation, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, has made a significant statement regarding female wrestler Vinesh Phogat. He said, “Vinesh Phogat was illegally declared the winner of the Olympic qualification match. She faced the consequences at the Olympics. God gave her the answer for her actions.”
In an interview, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh stated that an athlete cannot compete in two different weight categories simultaneously, as per the rules of wrestling. However, Vinesh Phogat competed in both the 50 kg and 53 kg categories. She was defeated in both but was still illegally declared the winner.
Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh explained, “She lost 10-0 in the 53 kg category. After five hours, she competed in the 50 kg category. Shivani Pawar was leading 5-0 in this match, but there was confusion. The referee then declared Vinesh the winner.”
The former Wrestling Federation president also addressed the allegations made against him by Vinesh and other wrestlers, saying, “The accusations against me are still under investigation, but I have maintained from the start that they are false. The so-called movement that the media speaks of, criticizing me, was not originally a players’ movement. It was a Congress-led movement. Congress was behind it. After Vinesh and Bajrang’s entry into Congress, it has become clear that Congress orchestrated a major conspiracy to remove me from the position of Wrestling Federation president.”
Criticism of Wrestlers’ Agitation
Olympic medalist Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat have both joined Congress. Vinesh has been given a ticket for the upcoming assembly elections by Congress, and there is a high possibility that Bajrang will also receive a nomination. Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh commented, “I want to tell the people of Haryana that Bajrang and Vinesh did not protest for the honor of female wrestlers. They used their supporters only to achieve their and Congress’s political goals. Vinesh and Bajrang disrespected the dignity of ordinary people. Their protests were never for the respect of women but solely for political purposes.”
