Virat Kohli Fined by ICC
The heated exchange between Virat Kohli and young Australian batsman Sam Constas garnered more attention than Australia’s batting in the Melbourne Test. Kohli was seen clashing with Constas during the match, and the incident has now resulted in a fine for the Indian cricketer.
According to a report by Cricbuzz, the ICC has fined Kohli 20% of his match fee for his behavior. He has been found guilty of a Level 1 offence under the ICC Code of Conduct. Fortunately, Kohli has only been penalized with one demerit point, meaning he is not suspended for the next match.
What Happened Between Kohli and Constas?
The incident occurred during the break between the 10th and 11th overs of the Australian innings. As Constas and Usman Khawaja were switching ends, Kohli was also changing his fielding position. The two accidentally bumped into each other while walking, leading to a heated exchange.
Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting, who was commentating at the time, suggested that Kohli may have bumped into Constas deliberately.
Constas’ Brilliant Performance
Despite the altercation, Constas displayed exceptional composure and delivered a remarkable performance. Playing in his debut Test match, the 19-year-old scored 60 runs off 65 balls, including two sixes against Jasprit Bumrah. His innings provided a much-needed boost to Australia’s struggling top order.
Constas and Usman Khawaja shared a crucial 89-run partnership for the first wicket, setting the tone for Australia’s innings. The young batsman’s performance stood out as a highlight in an otherwise challenging series for the Australian team.
