Neeraj Chopra Flies to Germany After Paris Olympics 2024: Injury Concerns and Future Plans
India’s golden boy, Neeraj Chopra, who won a silver medal at the Paris Olympics 2024, has flown to Germany for medical consultation. The Tokyo Olympics gold medalist was a strong contender for gold this year, but Arshad Nadeem secured the top spot with a record throw of 92.97 meters in the javelin final. Neeraj, despite his best efforts, claimed the silver medal. After the event, Neeraj revealed he had been struggling with a groin injury during the match, which may require surgery. Consequently, Neeraj has made the decision to seek immediate medical attention.
Neeraj Chopra’s Medical Journey to Germany
Following his Paris Olympics success, Neeraj Chopra has departed for Germany to consult with specialists about his injury. Reports indicate that he will be assessing whether surgery is necessary and deciding on his participation in upcoming Diamond League tournaments. Neeraj had been dealing with inner thigh muscle issues even before the Olympics. In his post-match statement, Neeraj mentioned that he would soon be visiting a doctor, as the injury might require surgery, potentially sidelining him from competitions for a while.
When Will Neeraj Chopra Return to India?
According to a PTI report, a source close to Neeraj’s family confirmed that he has left for Germany and is unlikely to return to India for at least a month. Sources within the Indian Olympic Association in Paris have also confirmed that Chopra has flown to Germany for medical consultation. Neeraj had previously mentioned after his victory at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland in June that he would consult with doctors regarding his injury.
Neeraj Chopra’s Struggle with a Groin Injury
Neeraj Chopra is currently suffering from a hernia, which has aggravated his groin injury. This issue significantly impacted his performance in Paris, where he made four out of five foul throws in the final. His only successful throw of 89.45 meters earned him the silver medal, but he struggled with his run-up due to the injury. Neeraj first disclosed his groin injury during the 2022 World Championships. Since then, he has faced ongoing issues with this injury, but he pushed through the pain while preparing for the Paris Olympics.
