Dhanbad: Coal India employees will receive a bonus of ₹93,750 this year, benefiting 2.42 lakh workers. On Sunday, a seven-hour-long meeting of the Standardization Committee between management and unions at Coal Bhawan in New Delhi resulted in an agreement on the bonus.
Last year, in 2023, Coal India paid a bonus of ₹85,500. This year, there has been an increase of ₹8,250. The workers of Singareni Collieries Company will also benefit from this bonus agreement along with Coal India employees. Coal India posted a profit of ₹37,369 crore in the financial year 2023-24, which served as the basis for determining the bonus amount.
Coal India will pay approximately ₹1,875 crore in bonuses. This will benefit 2.42 lakh coal workers, including employees of Coal India’s units BCCL, CCL, and ECL, located in Jharkhand.
Conditions for Bonus:
The full bonus amount will be granted to coal workers who have attended work for 312 days. If attendance is less than this, the bonus amount will be reduced accordingly. After the bonus payment, approximately ₹800 crore is expected to flow into Jharkhand’s festive market through the coal workers.
From the start, recognized unions had been pressuring management for a bonus amount higher than last year’s ₹85,500. Representatives from unions like AITUC, HMS, BMS, and CITU were united during the negotiations.
The Standardization Committee meeting was attended by Coal India Director (Personnel) Vinay Ranjan, DP Murali Krishna Ramayya, CCL DP Harsh Nath Mishra, ECL’s A. Alam, KS Rao, BMS’s Sudhir Ghurde, Majrool Haque Ansari, HMS’s Nathulal Pandey, Shiv Kumar Yadav, AITUC’s Ramendra Kumar, CITU’s DD Ramanandan, along with 23 other representatives.

8.33% Bonus for Outsourcing Workers:
Outsourced and contract workers in Coal India will also receive a bonus of 8.33%, equivalent to one month’s salary. The management will issue separate orders to coal companies regarding the bonus payment for contract workers.
