State Bureau, Ranchi: A hearing took place in the Jharkhand High Court with Chief Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao and Justice Deepak Roshan on a public interest petition seeking a stay on the Chief Minister’s Maiya Samman Yojana. During the hearing, the bench denied imposing a stay on the scheme and dismissed the petition. The petition had been filed by Vishnu Sahu, a resident of Simdega, in the High Court.
The petition argued that the Jharkhand Assembly Election 2024 is approaching in a few months. According to the Supreme Court’s guidelines, the state government cannot directly transfer money to an individual’s account as it is funded by taxpayers’ money, which sustains the government.
“Direct Transfers to Accounts Are Not Appropriate”
The petition further claimed that the government’s responsibility is to allocate funds to schemes that benefit the public, rather than transferring money directly to individual accounts. It also highlighted that schemes like old-age pensions and disability pensions have not been functioning for the last four months. The petitioner argued that the Maiya Samman Yojana was initiated to influence voters for the upcoming assembly elections. After hearing the petitioner’s arguments, the court dismissed the petition.
Victory for the State’s Women: Hemant Soren
Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s government recently launched the Maiya Samman Yojana. Following the dismissal of the PIL, Hemant Soren shared a post on social media stating, “The state’s women have won. The tyrant has lost, but the fight continues. Now they will take this matter to the Supreme Court, but I, your brother, your son, will defeat them there as well.”
Referring to the same issue, Chief Minister Hemant Soren took a jibe on social media on Wednesday. In his post on X, he stated, “On one hand, we have sent four installments of the scheme to the accounts of 5.7 million sisters. On the other hand, the BJP is using all its might to stop the Maiya Samman Yojana. Such shamelessness!”
