State Bureau, Ranchi: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, admitted during a press conference on Monday that not releasing the caste census data was a mistake by the Congress. Speaking shortly before the campaign concluded in Jharkhand, Gandhi stated that the Congress has a blueprint ready for conducting a caste-based census. Congress-ruled states like Telangana and Karnataka are already formulating a plan for this, and the same approach will be implemented in Jharkhand.
During the press conference, Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the BJP, accusing them of intimidating tribal communities. He referred to the arrest of Chief Minister Hemant Soren as an example. Gandhi also criticized the alleged move to hand over Dharavi, Mumbai’s largest slum area, to the Adani Group, stating that Congress would oppose such actions.
“Nothing in the Constitution Allows This…”
Continuing his criticism, Gandhi stated, “The Constitution does not say that one man should control all the country’s airports.” He accused the government of using ED and CBI raids to intimidate the previous operator of Mumbai’s airport, subsequently awarding the project to Adani. “National assets are being handed over to one or two individuals, which is why I emphasize the importance of the Constitution,” he added.
On questions about Congress-ruled states collaborating with Adani for projects, Gandhi clarified that he opposes bypassing due process. “In Maharashtra, due process is being ignored,” he said.
“Manipur Burns While PM Stays Away”
Addressing the situation in Manipur, Gandhi highlighted the ongoing violence in the state, urging the central government to take immediate steps to restore peace. “Manipur is burning again, and the entire nation knows what is happening there. I visited Manipur, but Prime Minister Modi has not gone even once. The Home Minister is not doing his job; his focus is not on stopping the violence in Manipur,” he remarked.
